Absa of South Africa starts bitcoin custody for institutional clients

Bitcoin Magazine reports that Absa, a Johannesburg-based bank, is now the first lender in Africa to hold bitcoin for customers. It cites a Bloomberg report from October 2. The service is aimed at institutional clients and also covers other digital assets.

Why it matters for Bitcoin: Custody means a bank safeguards the keys that control bitcoin for its clients, a step banks in many countries have been taking.
